Consider the conversion funnel, where are people dropping off? A healthy conversion rate varies by industry, but 2–5% is typical for most websites. If you’re below that, it’s time to test new CTAs or layout changes.

Time on Page: Are they reading or skimming?

Available in GA4 under “Average engagement time.” You can also use session recording tools (Hotjar, Crazy Egg) to visually see behavior.  Low time on page (<30 seconds) may signal that users aren’t finding what they need. Higher time on page (1–2 minutes or more) indicates content is resonating. Match this with scroll depth to see if users are just pausing or actually reading through.

Click-Through Rate (CTR): Are your CTAs effective?

You should track button clicks, menu links, and other CTAs as events in GA4 or tools like Hotjar (click maps) or heatmapping tools. Are users clicking on your main CTAs (e.g., “Contact Us,” “Get a Quote”)? If CTR is low, your copy, design, or CTA placement may need a refresh.
Test different CTA wording, color, and location to improve performance. Even small changes can lead to noticeable gains.

Scroll Depth: Are users reaching key content?

Use scroll tracking in GA4 or heatmapping tools like Hotjar or Crazy Egg to see how far down users scroll. Are users making it to your value props, testimonials, or forms? If most drop off at the halfway mark, consider moving important content higher or breaking long sections into shorter segments. Combine scroll data with time on page to identify if users are reading thoroughly or just scanning.
